The ranking of the most powerful passports is based on the number of countries a passport holder can travel to without a visa. The UK-based Henley & Partners firm continues to compile this list using data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Accordingly, it has released the list of the most powerful passports for this year. There are 227 countries. Let’s check out the list. Asian countries dominate this list.
- First place is Singapore (with visa-free access to 193 countries)
- Second place is South Korea (with visa-free access to 190 countries)
- Third place is Japan (with visa-free access to 189 countries)
- Fourth place is shared by Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, and Switzerland
- Fifth place is shared by Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, and the Netherlands
- Sixth place are Greece, Hungary, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal & Sweden
- Seventh place are Australia, the Czech Republic, Malta, and Poland
- Eighth place are Croatia, Estonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, UAE & UK
- Canada holds the 9th place
- Latvia and Liechtenstein shares 10th place
United States, which held the title of the world’s most powerful passport in 2014, shares the 12th spot this year with Malaysia. With the passports of these two nations, one can travel to 180 out of the world’s 227 countries without needing a visa.
Our neighbouring country, China, is in the 64th place.
India’s Position
India, which was ranked 71st in 2006 and 90th in 2021, has secured the 85th place this year. An Indian passport allows visa-free travel to 57 countries.

Afghanistan is at the very bottom of this list, in the 106th place.
