International students who are accepted by higher educational institutes in Hungary are required to obtain a student visa (TM-6, valid for 30 days) from the Hungarian Embassy or Consulate before entering the country.
To receive a student visa, it is necessary to submit the “Letter of Acceptance” from the university. Once the student enters the country, it is essential for them to apply for a residence permit from the Hungarian Police Authorities for Foreign Citizens within 14 days of arrival.
The student has to make sure that they apply for a residence permit within 15 days of arrival in Hungary. This applies to those who wish to stay for more the 90 days.
International Students who are not EU citizens and plan to stay and study in Hungary for a period longer than 90 days must apply for a long term study Visa.
Processing time for visas will take approximately one month time. So International students must apply well in advance and schedule appointments accordingly.
