You can take up the exam 4 times a month. You have to choose your country, the closest examination centre near you, the type of exam (IELTS Academic and IELTS General training) and the test date on your convenience and click apply after filling the application form.
Both IDP and British council offer 48 fixed dates a year for 4 times in a month. Register the date one month prior to secure a place.
You will receive your IELTS test result 13 days after the day of the test. You will receive it only in test report form. You can preview your test results online. Some centers can preview the result by SMS. The centers are not permitted to give the results through phone, fax or email.
You will receive a copy of your test report form. You must keep it safely as you will not get a replacement for it. You also have your photograph in your test report and an inbuilt security system so that it cannot be copied.
Your test centre will forward your test report form upto 5 universities for free of cost. You will choose these 5 universities when you book your test. These results will be sent electronically and in some cases they will receive your result even before you receive it. The universities can also double check the details of your test report in the online database. If you want your test report to be sent to other universities as well then you must consult with your test center.
Your score card is valid for only 2 years. The universities will not accept your score card after 2 years unless you have proof that you tried to improve your English since the date of the test.
