Hi everyone, Duolingo English Test has announced that with effect from 15 September 2025, candidate must scan the room when they sit for DET test.

Let’s explain how to use your phone to scan your room before the test. This helps our proctoring team confirm that your test environment is secure.

Steps to Scan Your Room:

1. Open the Test App

a) Launch the Duolingo English Test desktop app and log into your account.

b) Continue through the setup screens until you’re prompted to scan your room.

2. Connect Your Phone

a) Use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code on screen.

b) Enter the four-digit code you receive.

c) Make sure your phone is fully charged, set to Do Not Disturb, and no contacts can bypass this setting.

d) Notifications during the test can invalidate your session.

3. Grant Permissions

a) Allow the desktop app to access your phone’s camera.

b) Grant motion and orientation access.

4. Start the Scan

a) Stand up and point your phone at your computer. Make sure the entire screen and keyboard are visible.

b) Slowly turn in a circle, keeping your phone steady and following the guide on screen.

5. Finish the Scan

a) Point your phone at your keyboard.

b) Slowly move your phone over the top of your computer to show the space behind your screen.

c) Once complete, your phone will be ready to act as a secondary camera.
