Entry Requirements

  • Academic percentage in 12th has to be above 60% but there can be certain exceptions for students scoring 55%.
  • Student must be fluent in English and the medium of Instruction in their high school has to be English.
  • Student has to appear for a Skype interview taken by the University Officer from Hungary. The interview is to judge English proficiency of student which lasts between 10‐ 15 minutes.
  • IELTS/ GMAT are not required.

Student Visa Process

International students who are accepted by higher educational institutes in Hungary are required to obtain a student visa (TM-6, valid for 30 days) from the Hungarian Embassy or Consulate before entering the country.

To receive a student visa, it is necessary to submit the "Letter of Acceptance" from the university. Once the student enters the country, it is essential for them to apply for a residence permit from the Hungarian Police Authorities for Foreign Citizens within 14 days of arrival.

Visa Process

  • Students from Non EU member countries who want to stay in Hungary for more than 90 consecutive days are required to apply for a long-term student visa to stay in the country.
  • Students are advised to enquire well in advance about the entry requirements for the student visa in your home country
  • Students should have received an offer from a Hungarian university in order to receive a student visa for Hungary.
  • Students can approach the Hungarian Consulate or Embassy in your country to apply for a visa and this has to be done prior to their departure.
  • Processing a visa usually takes a one month, but could be longer so students have to apply in advance to avoid any unnecessary complications.
  • In case of appointments, it is better to schedule it 4 to 6 weeks in advance since appointment times are limited.

The student has to make sure that they apply for a residence permit within 15 days of arrival in Hungary. This applies to those who wish to stay for more the 90 days.

Student Visa and Residence Permit

International Students who are not EU citizens and plan to stay and study in Hungary for a period longer than 90 days must apply for a long term study Visa.

Processing time for visas will take approximately one month time. So International students must apply well in advance and schedule appointments accordingly.

The students have to make sure they apply for residence permit within 15 days of arrival in Hungary. This applies to those who wish to stay for more the 90 days.

  11. Will I need to learn to speak Hungarian?
  12. Although not required but it is better to learn at least basic Hungarian as this will be helpful for students to bond with the locals and assimilating into their culture. Most of the older generation, especially outside of the big cities, speaks only Hungarian or German.

  13. After how much period of residence it is possible to apply for national permanent residence permit?
  14. A national permanent residence permit application could be submitted after 3 years of lawful and continuous residence in Hungary.

  15. Can I get accepted in to degree programs without a language certificate (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.) ?
  16. Most universities offer language exams for the applicants who do not meet the requirements for a international language certificate. Students have who passed this language exam can study from the first year, but the ones who fail this exam have to study 1-2 semesters in preparation year (foundation) of the university.
